ABOUT: Kodachadri is located in shimoga district and is one of the most popular trekking destinations in southern India. It is declared as natural heritage site by the Karnataka Government, and it is 10th highest peak of Karnataka. There are different routes to reach the peak of kodachadri. However, it is challenging to reach the peak in monsoon due to heavy rains that make the routes slippery.

DIFFICULTY LEVELModerate to Difficult: The Trek difficulty level completely depends on Season, the trek is moderate in level but becomes tricky and difficult during monsoon season. For a beginner, MILES TO TREK normally recommends to trek one side and take use of Jeep services available there.

DURATION OF THE TREK– The trek is a 20km approx. (Both ways) route. This trek can take 7-9 hours to complete for a person with average fitness.

TYPE OF TREK- Trail through forests, waterfalls and grassland.

BEST TIME TO VISIT – The kodachadri trek can be done all year round and each season has its own charm. The monsoon or the post monsoon season is more preferred as the landscapes here truly come alive with lush greenery. However heavy rains and the unpredictable kodachadri weather can make trekking more difficult.

LOCATION: It is located at a distance of 21 km from kollur and 15 km from Nagodi village, in hosanagar taluk. Situated in the middle of the Mookambika National Park and considered as a biodiversity hotspot, it is home to several endemic and endangered species of flora and fauna. It also forms the perfect backdrop to the moola mookambika temple, believed to be the place of origin of goddess Mookambika. Catching a glimpse of the evening sunset into the Arabian sea from its peak offers an enchanting experience; a combination of mountain and ocean, that very few peaks in the country can boast of.

HISTORY: It is said that during the 9th century, Europeans trekked to the peak and recorded it as the most stunning place on earth. It is also believed that the sage Adi Shankara trekked to kodachadri, meditated here, and established a temple at kollur. On the hilltop, one can see a temple dedicated to Adi Shankara, called as the sarvajna peeta. On the other hand, shivaram karanth, one of the finest writers of Karnataka trekked to kodachadri in the 1940s and regarded it as one among the three beautiful mountain peaks of Coastal Karnataka. (Other two being Kumara parvatha and kudremukh)
