Karnataka -“The Elevated Land”


Karnataka the sixth largest state in India. The largest state in South India. The name Karnataka has come from two Kannada words karu and nadu meaning “elevated land”.

And this name seems more promising when we see the Western ghats crossing around Karnataka. Making it a hotspot for weekend gateways. The rich flora and fauna elevates the beauty of the hills. The hills provide a lot of jobs oppurtunities for as one can see a lot of treks in weekend. So if you are looking for a break from the bustling city life, treks in these serene landscape can rejuvinate your mind. I can never write about all the peaks in one article, but i will try to add all the 2 days trek which are a great delight for traveller


Kudremukh is a mountain range and name of a peak located in Chikkamagaluru district, in Karnataka, India. It is also the name of a small hill station cum mining town situated near the mountain, about 20 kilometres from Kalasa. The name Kuduremukha literally means ‘horse-face’ (Kannada) and refers to a particular picturesque view of a side of the mountain that resembles a horse’s face. Karnataka -“The Elevated Land”. It was also referred to as ‘Samseparvata’, historically since it was approached from Samse village. Kuduremukha is Karnataka’s 2nd highest peak after Mullayanagiri.


Kumara Parvatha 1712m 5617ft is the highest peak in Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary in the Western Ghats of Karnataka.
Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary is one of 21 Wildlife Sanctuaries of India’s Karnataka state.
Historical Value: It is believed that Lord Subramanya’s footmark is presented in the hilltop temple. You can see the stone mark still. Top of the hill there are two temples, one is for Lord Shiva and other one for Lord Shubramanya. It is believed that if any person has Sharpadosha it can be eliminated by visiting this temple.
This sanctuary is located in Somwarpet taluk of the Kodagu district. It is home to rare and endangered birdlife.The Kadamakkal reserve forest is a part of the sanctuary. Pushpagiri (Kumara Parvatha) is the highest peak in it. The sanctuary adjoins Bisle reserve forest to the north and Kukke Subramanya forest range to the west.
Mandalpatti peak, Kote betta and Makkalagudi betta are mountains fall in the sanctuary. Mallalli falls and Kote abbe waterfalls (also called as Mukkodlu falls) are located inside the sanctuary. The Pushpagiri Wildlife Sancutuary has been proposed as one of the World Heritage Site.[2]

KODACHADRI TREK Kodachadri is a mountain peak with dense forests (elevation – 1,343 metres above sea level) in the Western Ghats in South India (Shivamogga District, Karnataka), 78km from Shimoga. It is declared as natural heritage site by the Karnataka Government and it is 13th highest peak of Karnataka.
The name comes from native word “Kodacha” or “Kodashi”, which means Kutaja flowers, and “Adri”, a Sanskrit word for mountain, both combined together to coin the word Kodachadri. “Kuţaja” in Sanskrit means Girimallika or Jasmine of the hill. The hilly region that is full of “Jasmine of the hills” plants is “Kutajagiri”. It is also called “Kutachadri” and “Kodashi Parvatha”.

Getting bored with hills? Karnataka is bordered with Arabian Sea to the west. And if you feel you are a beach person Gokarna is the place you need to go. Many vendors organise the weekend treks to the untouched beaches and caves located in Gokarna.

GOKARNA BEACH TREKis a small temple town on the western coast of India in the Kumta taluk of Uttara Kannada district of the state of Karnataka. The main temple is Shiva, who is also known as Mahabaleshwara. This temple houses what is believed to be original image of Shiva’s linga (Atmalinga). There are many other temples all over this small town.
